Pierre Henderson-Niles No Longer a Tiger.

No More Pierre?

Pierre Henderson-Niles is no longer a Memphis Tiger?

Here’s the statement (found here):

Feb. 8, 2010

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis senior forward Pierre Henderson-Niles is no longer a member of the Tiger basketball team, head coach Josh Pastner announced Monday night.

“As I told the team, I have a soft spot for Pierre, and I really want to see him do well,” said Pastner. “He’s a fine young man, and I am proud of how hard he worked to get in shape to play this season and also how hard he worked in the classroom so that he can graduate in May.

“Moving forward, we will do all we can for Pierre as he finishes up the academic work toward completing his degree. We wish Pierre nothing but the best.”

Henderson-Niles played in all 23 games in 2009-10 and made 16 starts. He averaged 5.2 points and 5.2 rebounds, while shooting 48.6 percent from the field.

Sooooo….. How did this happen? What went down between 1:00pm and 9:30pm on Monday so that Pierre was no longer a Tiger? And who made the call?

Pastner’s saying the right things, but did he give Pierre the boot, or had Niles simply just had enough?

If he quit, does that change your opinion of him? A former Ridgeway star, how will you remember Pierre Henderson-Niles?

At least we know this – we’re going to see a lot more three balls from Angel Garcia.
