Wishful Thinking As Deadline Approaches

Today, I’m messing around with the NBA Trade Machine. (A great way to spend Valentine’s.)

I’ll update if I can get anything else – no matter how ludicrous. Because that’s pretty much what I’m going for: irrational, one-sided trades that I rationalize to myself as legit.

Rodney Stuckey and Tayshaun Prince?

To Detroit: Mike Conley, Hasheem Thabeet, and Marcus Williams
To Memphis: Rodney Stuckey and Tayshaun Prince

For the Grizz: Looks great on the Grizzlies end, as we pick up (what I think) is a legit, dual threat, and BIG point guard. And we pick up Tayshaun Prince. But could you have both Prince and Rudy on the same team? Maybe. With one more year on Prince’s current deal, it could provide the Grizzlies with sign-and-trade options with Rudy Gay, knowing they have a legit player at that position should things not work out. Plus, all of a sudden, the Grizzlies have a few strong defensive players to swing into the lineup, and maybe that can rub off.

For the Pistons: Here’s where this falls apart. Detroit gets to move off of Tayshaun Prince’s deal, but there’s no way Detroit would swap Stuckey for Conley straight up. Detroit doesn’t have a center on the roster past this year, and since this season’s nearly awash anyway – maybe they’d take the chance on ‘developing’ (air quotes) Thabeet with lots of minutes for the rest of the season.

In the End: Unless Joe Dumars doesn’t have League Pass and hasn’t seen Mike Conley or Hasheem play, this one is a pipe dream.
