Grizzlies Play Well At Team USA Intra-Squad (Blue vs: White) Game

It looks as though OJ Mayo and Rudy Gay have taken the cohesiveness developed while playing together for the hometown Grizzlies to Las Vegas as they try to make the final roster for Team USA this summer. Both Mayo and Gay participated in the Intra-Squad (Blue vs: White) game Saturday night for Team Blue and put on very impressive showings. Though their team lost to the star-studded Team White both lead in scoring and field goal percentage, and were in the top 5 in every other statistical category.

Team USA’s management staff is scheduled to make their initial cuts of at least 4 players today before slimming down to 12-15 before heading to the FIBA World Championship in Turkey. According to ESPN’s Chris Sheridan, OJ Mayo is among the 4 – 6 players on the bubble as of yesterday. Despite his performance in Saturday’s Intra-Squad Game, Team USA is packed with guards all with similar size and skills to Mayo. Though he may have brought himself some more time to prove to the decision makers that he deserves to be there, nothing is promised to the Memphis Grizzlies star shooting guard.
