Wll Barton A-OK With NCAA

Chris Vernon the good luck charm? I might not go that far, but University of Memphis Head Coach Josh Pastner and his “Tiger Nation” might. Soon after Coach Pastner made a visit to The Chris Vernon Show on Friday August 20th he announced favorable news from the NCAA Clearing House that Freshman Guard Will Barton had been okayed to play during the upcoming 2010 – 2011 College Basketball season for the University of Memphis. The Tigers who will officially start limited workouts next week boast a recruiting class for 2010 ranked as high as #1 by www.Scout.com, www.Rivals.com, and The Sporting News. Though they are still waiting to hear back on the status of a couple more players, Barton was considered to be the biggest toss up in regards to his eligiablity and an inreplacable piece for the team this season.

A couple weeks ago the NCAA notified the University of Memphis that Barton was ruled ineligible due to a new NCAA rule requiring players to complete high school in eight semesters. Barton graduated from Lake Clifton High in Baltimore last August, two months after the rest of his class. Barton told members of the media “I did not know the rule applied in his case because I had already decided to take a postgraduate year at Brewster Academy (New Hamspire)”.

With Barton now officially in the mix the Tigers are sure to be in the Top 15 when Pre-Season rankings are released in the fall.
