Ole Miss Falls To Jacksonville State In Double Overtime

I know Ole Miss’ athletic director is wishing he would have kept that annual opening weekend game with Memphis on the schedule. Fellow state school Mississippi State dropped Larry Porter and the Tigers 49 – 7 during their opening game today while the Rebels feel to Jacksonville State 49 – 48 in Double Overtime in Oxford.

Jacksonville State, a first year Division 1-A school, won the game on a botched bootleg  by True Freshman Quarterback Coty Blanchard who ended up short passing to Calvin Middleton who took it in from 2 yards out for the conversion. Gamecocks Head Coach Jack Crowe took a very risky gamble deciding to go for the 2 point conversion and the win instead of the extra point which would have sent the game to a 3rd overtime. Luckily for him and the Gamecocks everything worked out and they left Oxford, MS with the win.

But where does Ole Miss go from here? They weren’t expected to be good this year but even this loss is low for a SEC team. All eyes will be on the Rebels next week as they take on Tulane to see how they will bounce back from this blow.
