Report: Heisman Trust To Strip USC’s Reggie Bush Of 2005 Trophy

According to Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports, the Heisman Trust has voted to strip former USC running back Reggie Bush of his 2005 Heisman Trophy. Much debate has been had over the last couple of months in regards to whether this would eventually happen as well as whether or not The Trust would re-issue the trophy to another player from that season. According to Cole both questions now have answers. Prior to the close of September the Heisman Trust is expected to request that the trophy, which is given to the best college football player annually, be returned to them. This request is being made due to the fact that Bush was ruled ineligible after the NCAA completed its investigation into whether or not he received improper benefits during the 2005 season, according to NCAA guidelines. The other question that was up for vote was whether or not the trophy would be re-issued to one of the other players on the ballot that year. During an interview with Dan Patrick earlier today Cole says, “no.” According to Cole the award will be vacated for 2005, which means that the award will not have a name attached to it for the first since its inception in 1935. Click here to hear Jason Cole’s interview on the Dan Patrick’s Show.
