On This Day In Sports: Duke and Pittsburgh Play Football In First Nationally Televised Sporting Event

On this day in sports: September 29, 1951 Duke University and the University of Pittsburgh participated in the first ever Live Nationally Televised sporting event. The football game played at Pitt Stadium in Pittsburgh, PA was won by Duke 19 – 14 and was seen coast to coast on NBC. Duke who was 2 and 0 following the game against Pitt, lost the following week to the University of Tennessee Volunteers who ended the 1951 season as the AP and Coaches Poll National Champions.
