And The Winner Is . . . . . . . The Rebel Black Bear Chosen As New Ole Miss Mascot

In an official news release from the Rebel Mascot Selection Committee this morning, The University of Mississippi “Ole Miss” now has a new a mascot to replace Colonel Reb. For the first time since 2002 Ole Miss will have visible representation to lead their teams on to victory in the form of a Black Bear, a Rebel Black Bear to be exact. The announcement ends an eight month process that involved the Rebel Mascot selection Committee, the Ole Miss’ student body, faculty, staff, alumni, and season ticket holders. All together 13,300 people voted on what the next mascot would be, choosing between the Rebel Black Bear, the Rebel Land Shark, and the Rebel Hotty Toddy.

The Rebel Black Bear beat out the other 2 choices, winning 62 percent of the vote. One important piece of business left out of the announcement was when Ole Miss fans should expect to see the Rebel Black Bear on the sideline or who will wear the costume.
