On This Day In Sports: The Boston Red Sox Win The 2004 World Series – Ending Their 86 Year Drought

On this day in sports: October 27, 2004 The Boston Red Sox 86 year quest for another World Series Championship was ended, as they won the 2004 Major League Baseball crown by sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0. Though the title of World Series Champions eluded the Sox for 86 years they made it to the Fall Classic 4 times between 1918 and 2003. Many Bostonians and sports historians alike believe the drought was brought on by what they refer to as “The Curse of the Bambino“. Since winning in 2004 the Red Sox have been to and won the World Series 1 other time, sweeping the Colorado Rockies 4-0 in 2007.
