On This Day In Sports: Dan Marino Becomes The First NFL Quarterback To Pass For 50,000 Yards In A Career

On this day in sports: November 10, 1996 Miami Dolphins Quarterback Dan Marino becomes the first NFL signal caller to pass for 50,000 or more yards over his career. Widely considered as one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game and without a doubt the greatest quarterback never to win an NFL Championship, Dan went on to push that record even higher. When Marino decided to walk away from football following the 1999 season (2000 Playoffs) he had completed 4.967 passes (also a NFL record at the time) for 61,361 yards. Though both records mentioned above are now owned by Minnesota Vikings Quarterback Brett Favre, Marino is the pass thrower most of today’s great QB’s are judged by because of his ownership or co-ownership of 34 NFL Records at the time of his retirement (22 of which he still holds to this day). For his great achievements Marino received all time great status when he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame in 2005.
