Tiger Woods Gets The Nod To Join 2010 US Ryder Cup Team

2010 Ryder Cup Team Captain for the US Corey Pavin finalized the roster for next months tournament in Wales. On Tuesday morning Pavin ended much speculation naming the 4 Captain’s Pick for this years team. In addition to announcing the most anticipated name, Tiger Woods, Pavin also named Rickie Fowler, Stewart Sink, and Zach Johnson to the 12 man roster which already included automatic qualifiers Phil Mickelson, Hunter Mahan, Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk, Matt Kuchar, Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson and Jeff Overton. This will be Tiger’s 6th appearance for the US Team but the 1st time he has had to be selected as a Captain’s Pick.

The 2010 Ryder Cup will take place at the Celtic Manor resort in Wales from October 1-3.

Andy Roddick Out At The US Open . . . . . . . . . . Is He The Most Over Rated Athlete?

Andy Roddick lived up to expectations in the 2nd Round of the 2010 US Open bowing out early to a lower seeded Janko Tipsarevic in 4 sets. Roddick the 9th ranked tennis player in the world has been on the losing end of things since winning the 2003 US Open over Juan Carlos Ferrero. Since winning his only Grand Slam Championship Roddick has been to only 4 Grand Slam Finals, eventually losing all of them to the current 2nd ranked tennis player in the world Roger Federer. If you do the math that means Roddick has been to only one-ninth (1/9) of the possible 28 Grand Slam Finals since winning in 03′, which in my opinon is pretty pitiful. As I watched the highlights of yesterdays match I began to think . . . . . . . . Is Andy Roddick The Most Over Rated Athlete That We Currently Have In Sports? I played around with the question in my head for a few but was unable to come up with a definative answer, so I decided to compile a list of other athletes that might compare and see where they ranked with our listeners.

The Curse Of The White Belt

I guess they don’t call him the “smartest man in sports” for no reason, . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .wait, now that I think about it that’s Verno’s self-proclaimed name for himself but after seeing Tiger Woods and Martin Laird play at the Barclay’s this weekend Chris Vernon might be on to something. Following Dustin Johnson’s choke job at the PGA Championship earlier this month Verno warned all golfers about the “Curse of the White Belt”. Letting the kings of swing know that there is absolutely no reason for a man to ever be caught wearing a white belt around his waist. Should they choose to ignore his P.S.A they would likely be subject to the same type of embarrassing fate as Johnson on the final hole, of the final day, at Whistling Straights.

Dustin Johnson during his shot from what was later discovered to be a sand trap on the 18th hole at Whistling Straights. Johnson who thought he was apart of a 3 way tie to force a playoff was penalized for grounding his club in a sand trap causing him to miss the playoff.

I guess golfers Tiger Woods and Martin Laird missed that days show as both were decked out in their white belts during this weekends tournament at the Barclay’s.

Martin Laird during the Final Round at The Barclay's Tournament Sunday August 29, 2010

Tiger who wore his Saturday (Round 3), shot a 72, which when combined with his scores for the other 3 Rounds tied him for 12th after leading through the First Round Thursday. Laird on the other hand made the mistake of wearing his white belt during the final round at the Barclay’s Tournament. On the 18th hole Laird bogeyed his third attempt at the hole from 23 feet after missing a 7 footer for par. This hiccup left Laird tied with Matt Kuchar at the end of regulation to force a one hole playoff, which Kuchar won to claim the tournament. UNBELIVEABLE I KNOW

Tiger, Tiger Woods Yall . . . . . . . Woods Leader At The Barclay’s Through Round 1

Is this the post-divorce Tiger Woods? Who knows but the #1 golfer in the world brought his “A” game to the Barclay’s Tournament this weekend and it has shown in the opening round earlier today. Through 18 holes Tiger is sitting atop the leader board tied with Vaughn Taylor at -6 (Six Strokes Under Par) in the first of ten FedEx Cup events. Both golfers hold a 1 stroke lead over 2 golfers who shot -5 (Five Strokes Under Par) and 7 golfers at -4 (Four Strokes Under Par). In order for Tiger to remain in contention for the FedEx Cup he must place 52 or higher by tournament close on Sunday at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey.

Following his opening round Tiger said “It feels good to be able to control my ball all day like this. I haven’t done that. The one time I hit the ball like this was the nine holes at the U.S. Open, on Saturday. I hit it [like that] all day today and that feels good. It feels good to have the things I’m working on starting to feel more natural.”

It’s good to see Tiger seemingly back in the swing of things. How do you think he will finish this weekend?
